What is Aptis

Aptis is an innovative global English assessment tool developed by the British Council. As the proud co-owner of IELTS, the British Council has more than 80 years’ experience in developing and running high quality English language assessments and testing services, to meet the diverse needs of organisations and individuals around the world.

In December 2016, at the 9th Meeting of the UK-China High Level People-to-People Dialogue, the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) and the British Council signed a memorandum of understanding, confirming the cooperation on the mutual recognition between international English tests, such as IELTS and Aptis and China Standards of English (CSE). Aptis has become the first English test mapped to both the CEFR and the CSE.
